My initial thought was that it had to do with different mythologies or other stories that live in the collective unconscious, but I admit that I don't have enough knowledge about specific cultural or religious tales to know more than that.

The subconscious is interesting and unique within a single person - to see how it all merges into such a disturbing visual, well...

I find it fascinating is all. My thoughts don't skew any particular way.
