[ There's something to keeping an ally occupied and there's more to not giving into every shitty whim.
Feathermen falls somewhere in between. It's not about the shards - Akechi's overflowing with them. ]
I never expected you to care about something so juvenile. [ It's not a yes or no. He tears off a larger clump of the bread to hold out to Eren. ] Help me finish this. I don't want it to go stale on the way back and I'm getting full.
[Eren hits a wall. He can't explain without truly explaining. He can't tell Akechi that he cares about Featherman because he cares about Akechi. He can't explain how things become sacred. He takes the bread and eats it. The chewing makes a good excuse for silence. He tries to think of what to say...]
I just like it.
[No more explanation, no real room for argument. He just likes it. Right?]
[ I just like it. Akechi accepts the simplicity for what it is. A child liked it for no rhyme or reason outside of bright colors and grand heroics. As he got older, he became interested in the plot, the morality of it, but still-
Sometimes he just likes it too.
He lets out a hm and doesn't question it further. Eren's arm feels hot against his neck, but he doesn't move away. ]
Everything you see in the background is Tokyo itself. While some of it is embellished with old school effects, its core remains the same. Around the corner, there's a crepe shop I frequent. It didn't exist then though, so there's no sense in trying to make it out. Not that you could with the resolution of this video.
[ Akechi raises his hand to Eren's eyelevel and pinches the smallest amount of bread between his fingers. Then he pops it right into his mouth. ]
Even this is too thick, but it gives you an idea. They fill it with simple ingredients like fruit or chocolate and fold it up. It looks like a heavy meal, but it ends up being lighter than it seems.
[It sounds good. Overwhelming, maybe. He glances down at the loaf of birthday bread and tears off another chunk, putting it in his mouth to slowly chew. It's nowhere near as sweet. He nods his head.]
I wouldn't be opposed to that. I doubt he would mind either.
[ Not at all. It's simple, Maruki wants ideas for food and it's a light meal - even if Akechi defaulted to that cafe simply because it was trendy. He didn't dislike the food. ]
We should get some of the ingredients prior - fruit, whipped cream and items of that nature.
[ Maruki's going to ask them to run the stupid errand so they may as well get it out of the way. Really, Akechi should just make Eren do it. Takes a second to consider it and-
Oh - he perks up, entire attention captivated by the television once more. ]
This scene is ingenious. The giant robot wasn't made with CGI - it was done using the toys they would eventually sell and right after this episode aired, I recall a commercial for it. [ A beat. ] Of course, the robot's lazers and powers aren't real. That would be foolish. [ Another beat. ] That's primitive CGI.
[He perks up. Eren is so grateful for it. He never knows how many times he'll see it, or for how long. Everything Akechi said feels beyond his understanding, but he wants to ask a thousand questions anyway, just to hear him answer.]
Camera tricks - yes. I couldn't begin to explain the process, but it's likely something you could manage even with your camera. It's all about perception.
[ He isn't surprised. It's only natural Eren would move on from taking simple photos after he mastered it. He's a man easily satisfied, yet craves more all the same.
He stretches his arms outwards - his legs soon follow. If both settle against Eren afterwards, it's only a mistake and Eren can move if he's so bothered by the touch. Akechi's comfortable. He won't be the first to pull back. ]
Explaining the 'how' of it is difficult, but watch the next scene - that spaceship about to attack Tokyo is CGI. It looks different than everything else, doesn't it? As if is something's off? It lacks the details that come with signs of life and frankly, looks fake.
A computer created the model and it's placed into the show during the video's editing process. It was a technological marvel at the time this was made, so it was placed in on occasion.
[It's an opportunity Eren won't miss. When Akechi shifts, Eren shifts too, until the other boy is practically in his lap, legs slung over, Eren's arm still over his shoulders. He feels hurried to continue the conversation, to draw no attention to anything other than what's playing on the screen. The explanation is still a bit over his head, but he seems satisfied with this:]
So, it's a computer thing...
[As far as Eren can tell, computers can do basically anything.]
You're right. It does look fake. Almost like it was painted on or something. I guess, since they can't actually film anything like that...
[ It's different when they're both awake and aware. Any shared moments taking naps at the Machiya are over with the summer heat - Akechi no longer seeks the same warmth he did in the winter. It took only one humid day and waking up with all his clothes sticking to his skin to end it - he blamed Eren. Still does.
But it's different like this. He doesn't move - not an inch after they're in a new, more intimate position. He can't stand it. Hates it. Thinks of every reason to rip away from his body, but-
It's cold this morning, so he tolerates the warmth against his thighs and-
He's in a good mood and Eren enjoys this shit, so he lets it slide. Akechi isn't sure why.
The talk goes to CGI and spaceships. The question's inane enough to make him scoff under his breath - the same old peasant nonsense as always. It's a good distraction. He'll stay here for a few moments, and peel back when the finale ends. ]
No, not at all. There are methods to get into space, but crafts like that are fiction and nothing more. Spaceships and alien invasions are frequent occurrance in media and modern entertainment. It's a long standing trope for Featherman in particular.
[It's a gift and Eren knows it - always is when Akechi allows them to get close. He doesn't move an inch for fear he'll scare the other man away. Regardless of whether or not Eren calls the bread "birthday bread", his intention was to please Akechi tonight. If he wants to move away, Eren won't fight him. He'll only hope...]
I didn't think space was somewhere you could go. There are people here who have traveled through it, though. There are probably a few people here who would even call themselves aliens.
[The last of Eren's bread is pressed back into his hand. The gift of food is never lost on him. It could be a thoughtless gesture, needlessly polite, but Akechi stopped being needlessly polite with Eren a while ago. Eren holds the bread in his hand for a few seconds before tearing it into two even smaller pieces. He puts one in his mouth, then holds the other up to Akechi's.]
[Eren is expecting some punishment when Akechi goes for his face, but it's apparently his attention the other man is after. Eren stares at Akechi; his lips, the bread, a mouth opening, tongue, taste...
[All just his imagining, of course. He obediently puts the bread in his own mouth, eyes locked on Akechi's, muddy red.]

They just made the toy look huge? Camera tricks?

[He hasn't shown Akechi his more artistic pursuits, taking photos that aren't just memories. Maybe he should sometime.]
Just moving things around in the frame, I mean.
[Anyway...]
I don't really get what you mean by CGI, though. You've explained it before, but videos make less sense to me.

[ The last few pieces of bread sit in his lap. When he moves to put it in his mouth, well -
It's impossible to not touch Eren when he raises his arm, so he switches to the one not currently pressed against the man's chest. ]

[ And to the bread held at his mouth -
Akechi only stares for a second, then two.
Eating from someone's hand like an animal - the look he casts Eren's way is equal parts confused and irate at the audacity of thinking he would.
His fingers grip Eren's chin and twists his head until it's fully focused on the hand near Akechi's lips. ]

As obedient as ever when it matters. He keeps his grip light on Eren's face.
And turns back to the television - a final battle winding down on the screen.
It really was a good show for its time. ]
